KNTV... a broadcaster known to everyone
Septante et Un, Clé Sur Porte, Ça Vous Fait Rire?, Enquêtes or the Moustiques d'Or. These are just a few of the flagship programmes produced by KNTV. KNTV is not a traditional television channel but a television production company whose main broadcasts are well known. KNTV is the unchallenged leader in television production in the French-speaking part of Belgium. At its head, there is Boris Portnoy, a passionate fan of the small screen. In the last 25 years, he has become a key player on the Belgian audiovisual landscape. The broadcasts he makes for RTL TVI or Be TV (in Belgium) are viewed every week by hundreds of thousands of viewers and you may well be one of them. In 1982 Boris Portnoy started Keynews Télévision (KNTV) with Eric Angelini, a cameraman he met during his studies at Insas (National Institute for the entertainment arts). In the beginning, KNTV took turns with information clips. However, the company was given a boost by winning a call to tender from the European Commission that the start-up company managed to obtain in the same year as its inception. The result was that KNTV closely followed European news and turned out a number of reports for foreign TV channels.
From news to entertainment
However, very quickly and in parallel with its flagship programme News, KNTV dared to change tack by starting to operate in the field of popular entertainment. This was a new activity that the Brussels-based company made for RTL TVI which over the years has become its most loyal partner. In 1983, the young team working for Boris Portnoy produced its first programme for the private channel.
This was the era of the children's programme the Chocolat Show and was the start of a long-lasting collaboration which was hailed as a success with programmes such as La Main à La Patte, Souriez Vous Etes Filmés, Si C'était Vous or the bombastic Pirette Show. So many successful broadcasts but according to statements made by the head honchos at RTL TVI, nothing was taken for granted. Freddy Tacheny, Director General of the private channel, benefits from the flexibility of KNTV and its surprising capacity to supply a range of programmes at the right moment. KNTV is also a partner of the private channel for coverage of major events. This happened in 2006 with the moving prime time broadcast Ciao Italia.
In 2007, the production company is more than ever concentrating on the future and has perfectly integrated the technological innovations of recent years.
The managers of KNTV, with Boris Portnoy at their head, have maintained the enthusiasm of their early days to see their company continue to grow. Their sites are firmly fixed on planet television. Acting as MIP at the Cannes film festival and with regular trips to the USA, the teams of KNTV always come up with new ideas with their ultimate objective being to make their impressive catalogue of TV productions even more modern and attractive and all to delight the general public.
